Welcome to the newly designed soft and pureed recipe site! I created this portion of my site to share recipes and tips for Epidermolysis Bullosa patients who require soft and pureed diets. I quickly learned by your e-mails that countless people out there with a varied range of conditions require similar diets and there is very little information and resources out there for people like us. I myself was born with a severe form of EB called Recessive Dystrophic. EB is a genetic skin disorder in which slight friction to the skin causes severe blisters and burn like wounds to develop all over the body and in some forms internally as well. This makes eating very difficult as the mouth and esophagus blister and scar which causes narrowing. Many with severe forms of EB also loose there teeth due to the inability to brush and care for them. Dentures are usually not an option for EB patients as the gum tissue is too sensitive and blisters as well. These problems often lead to malnutrition and many are not sure what and how to eat.
After researching as much as I could on what and how to puree food for myself, I was very disappointed to come up with very little helpful information. I decided to start experimenting for myself and share my findings for others in this situation and include suggestions and recipes from others.
Through this I've learned that eating a soft or pureed diet shouldn't mean you cant have choices and still eat the foods you like. It takes time and patience and experimentation to find what works best for you or your loved one. Different people and conditions require different textures and thickness of food. Please keep this in mind when trying these recipes and feel free to adjust and suit them to your needs.
Much of the recipes on these pages are actually more ideas and suggestions on what to puree and how. Because I am physically challenged, I do not have the energy to prepare complicated recipes as I am sure many of you can relate to.
Before proceeding to the recipes you may want to visit the Boosting Nutrition and Anemia pages to learn about ways to get the most nutrition into your diet. You may also want to visit the How to Puree page to learn the basics of pureeing food and tips and what products and kitchen appliances to use.
Also don't forget to visit the brand new Message Board and Chat Room! There is also a brand new Guestbook so please drop me a message before you leave. I welcome any comments questions or suggestions regarding my site and pureed food. I hope you enjoy the new and improved site.
ATTENTION!
I'm not a doctor or nutritionist, but a person living with RDEB who wants to share some food ideas. Every person and every condition requires different textures and thickness in food.
Please use caution when trying new foods and recipes.
