ATTENTION

Before you scroll down, please be aware that the pictures on this page are graphic photos of EB wounds and blisters.

Welcome

I've made this page so people can see the nature of this disorder and what children and adults with EB must deal with everyday.
You will also see how the severity of this disorder ranges greatly depending on the form.

If you would be so kind as to allow me to use photos of you or your child's skin on this page, please e-mail me with the photos in either gif or jpeg format and please include the form of EB and the age of the person in the photo. If you would like to include a name or any other information, I'd be happy to add that as well, however you can choose to remain anonymous.

My (Cristina's) Back
Age 18
Recessive Dystrophic - Hallopeau Siemens EB

As you can see in just 4 years my back progressed to this. It has become virtually impossible to heal over the years. The new skin that grows is so thin and weak it sluffs right back off within 24 to 48 hours, or I get massive water blisters and the skin sluffs off as well leaving large wounds.
The itching is also extremely terrible at times.

My back used to be much better, around this age is when it started getting worse.

My (Cristina's) Hands
2005, Age 21
Recessive Dystrophic - Hallopeau Siemens EB

My hands have been like this as long as I can remember. I lost all my fingernails by age 2 and my fingers began to curl and fuse into this fist shape. I have never had hand surgery because I have chosen not to, for many reasons. I have a lot of thumb space still free, meaning my thumbs have not fused all the way, so I can do things such as write, type etc. and I try to adapt things that I can't do.

My (Cristina's) Feet
2006, Age 22
Recessive Dystrophic - Hallopeau Siemens EB

My feet were a lot worse when I was younger. My right foot especially which is why it's more scarred and smaller than the other one. It also has a large amount of dry skin that I can't seem to make any better. My feet do blister if I walk too much but usually they do well. My feet can't sweat though so often they get overheated.

Here's a very recent photo of my back. It's better in some ways and worse in others. Overall I feel I'm doing ok and have kept the infections down for the most part. Though it still seems to be an endless cycle, the wound care products and bandages I'm currently using seem to help and reduce infection.
